Where does Bawideo find my videos?
It reads your Movies folder automatically. Add any other folder from the menu: Video Folders › Add Folder…. MP4, MOV and M4V files are supported.
Does it drain my battery?
Pick a frame rate per display (Off, 15, 30, 60 fps or native) and a separate one for battery; Bawideo switches when you unplug and starts at 30 fps on battery. Off stops decoding on that display, and playback pauses while your Mac sleeps.
Several displays?
Each display plays its own video. The menu controls follow the display whose menu bar you click.
How does Bawideo Pro work?
Bawideo is free for up to 10 videos. Bawideo Pro unlocks unlimited videos for 39.99 € a year, renewed automatically until you cancel in your App Store account settings (Manage Subscription… in the Bawideo menu). Subscribed on another Mac? Choose Restore Purchases.
Requirements
A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 13 Ventura or later. The app interface is in English.

Short version

Bawideo does not collect any data. Your videos and settings stay on your Mac. The only thing that ever leaves your device is your own optional purchase, and that transaction is handled entirely by Apple — Bawideo never sees it.

What Bawideo does with your data

Bawideo turns video files you already have into an animated desktop wallpaper. All of that processing happens locally, on your Mac:

  • Your videos are read from ~/Movies and any folder you explicitly add (via the standard macOS "choose a folder" dialog). Bawideo never uploads, streams, or transmits your video files anywhere. If you have no videos yet, the first-launch setup assistant can optionally copy 10 bundled sample video loops into ~/Movies/Bawideo — only if you click "Add Samples"; nothing is copied unless you ask for it.
  • Your settings (playback preferences, per-screen playlists, frame rate, a cached "unlocked" flag, and references to the folders you added) are stored locally in the app's sandboxed container on your Mac. They never leave your Mac.
  • Folder access: when you add a folder, macOS's App Sandbox grants Bawideo a read-only, security-scoped reference to that folder so it can keep reading it after a relaunch. That reference is a local, on-device credential — it is never sent anywhere.

Network access

Bawideo makes no network requests of its own. It ships with no analytics, no crash reporting, and no tracking of any kind. The one exception: if a video file is in a format Bawideo can't play, an alert offers a "Search how to convert" button; clicking it opens a web search in your default browser. That's a normal link click you choose to make — Bawideo itself doesn't send or receive anything over the network to make it happen.

Purchases

Bawideo is free to use with up to 10 videos. Removing that limit is an optional, auto-renewable subscription ("Bawideo Pro"), handled entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store (StoreKit). Bawideo asks the operating system whether your subscription is active; it never sees your payment details, billing address, or Apple Account information. You manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store account settings. The "Terms of Use", "Privacy Policy" and "Manage Subscription…" links in the app simply open the corresponding page in your default browser. See Apple's own privacy policy for how Apple handles that transaction: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Children's privacy

Bawideo is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Effective date" above will be updated. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
